El mar es lo que tiene, las olas vienen y van. En epidemiología suele pasar lo mismo, ya lo están viendo ustedes. Un servidor no es epidemiólogo, ni falta que le hace, pero sí puede aventurar que en enero, febrero y marzo tendremos otra ola. Con mucha probabilidad aumentarán los casos de covid y por lo tanto un porcentaje se pondrán enfermos y necesitarán hospitalización y algunos UCI. Veremos como la curva de ingresos y muertes aumenta.
¿Por qué habrá tercera ola?
Pues porque todos los años pasa lo mismo con las enfermedades respiratorias invernales (catarros, gripes y neumonías). El contagio es mayor con tiempo frío y seco.
Y este año en invierno tenemos la tormenta perfecta.
- Centros de salud llenos por catarro y gripes.
- Centros de salud llenos por covid.
- Centros de salud llenos por vacunas de covid.
¿Se saturarán otra vez los hospitales?
Volverá a saturarse la Atención Primaria, luego las urgencias hospitalarias, posteriormente las plantas de hospital y por último las UCIs.
Seguramente veamos llenarse el nuevo hospital Isabel Zendal.
¿Qué podemos hacer?
- Lavarnos las manos, ventilar, minimizar exposición pública con otras personas, uso de mascarilla y mantener distancias.
- Mucho ojo con los encuentros con amigos y familiares no convivientes.
- Caminar y salir al exterior todo lo que podamos en lugares no concurridos o por el campo.
- Mantener el humor y el ánimo alto.
- Abrazar y achuchar a los cercanos y telefonear y videoconferenciar a los lejanos (especialmente mayores y enfermos).

THE THIRD WAVE
The sea is what it is, the waves come and go. In epidemiology the same thing usually happens, you are already seeing it. I am not an epidemiologist but I can assure you that in January, February and March we will have another epidemic wave. It is very likely that the number of cases of covid will increase and therefore a percentage will become ill and will need hospitalisation and some ICUs. Why will there be a third wave?
Because every year the same thing happens with winter respiratory diseases (colds, flu and pneumonia). The contagion is greater with cold and dry weather.
And this year in winter we have the perfect storm.
- Health centres full of colds and flu.
- Health centres full of covid.
- Health centres full of covid vaccines.
Will the hospitals be overcrowded again?
The Primary Health Care will be saturated again, then the hospital emergencies, then the hospital floors and finally the ICUs.
We will probably see the new Isabel Zendal Hospital filled up.
What can we do?
- Wash your hands, ventilate, minimise public exposure to other people, use a mask and keep your distance.
- Be careful with meetings with friends and family who are not living together.
- Walk and go outside as much as possible in uncrowded places or in the countryside.
- Keep your spirits up and your mood high.
- Hug and cuddle those who are close to you and telephone and video conference those who are far away (especially the elderly and the sick).
