Diario de un médico descalzo, un año después. Diary of a barefoot doctor, one year later

Last fall I had the privilege of publishing the book Diary of a Barefoot Physician, a tribute to all the people who have helped me to be who I am. I wrote it thinking of my family, friends and patients and I have to confess that it helped me to reflect on the role of doctor that I am at this moment and the one that I would like to be, as well as to systematize everything that I would like to transmit to my patients so that they can deal better with their difficulties.

By taking on myself the process of editing and publication, I opted for freedom over profit. In this way I have been able on the one hand to create freely without any kind of restriction and on the other hand to give away the book (about 1700 copies). I am happy with the result, which has undeservedly garnered excellent reviews.

Experience has taught me the value of deepening reflection, betting on creativity and enhancing communication because finally literature is based on long conversations between readers and writers.

In times of noise, fake news and mediocrity it is a treasure to find valuable books. I hope this one can be significant for those who dare to navigate it.





El pasado otoño tuve el privilegio de publicar el libro Diario de un médico descalzo, un tributo a todas las personas que me han ayudado a ser quien soy. Lo escribí pensando en mi familia, amigos y pacientes y he de confesar que me ayudó a reflexionar sobre el rol de médico que ejerzo en este momento y el que me gustaría ejercer, así como a sistematizar todo lo que me gustaría transmitir a mis pacientes para que lleven mejor sus dificultades.

Al asumir en primera persona el proceso de edición y publicación opté por primar la libertad frente al lucro. De este modo he podido por un lado crear a voluntad sin ningún tipo de cortapisa y por otro regalar el libro a voluntad (unos 1700 ejemplares) sin rendir cuentas a nadie. Estoy contento con el resultado, que inmerecidamente ha cosechado excelentes críticas.

La experiencia me ha enseñado el valor de profundizar en la reflexión, apostar por la creatividad y potenciar la comunicación porque, a fin de cuentas, la literatura se basa en largas conversaciones entre lectores y escritores.

En tiempos de ruido, noticias falsas y mediocridad es un tesoro encontrar libros valiosos. Espero que este lo pueda ser para quien se atreva a navegarlo.
