Una de las cosas que está dejando claro la pandemia es que somos vulnerables. En este momento tenemos un montón de gente enferma por Covid en los hospitales, todas las semanas mueren varias centenas y todavía tenemos para largo.
Sin embargo hay poca reflexión sobre los cuidados, o por lo menos la que hay no se visibiliza lo suficiente. Si el sistema sanitario no da más de sí ¿quién va a cuidar? ¿cómo vamos a cuidar? ¿es posible adaptarse a un nuevo paradigma de cuidados?
José Laguna es teólogo, músico y pedagogo, además de un amigo. Me llena de orgullo leer su última colaboración en los cuadernos de Cristianismo y justicia, un foro intelectual de primer orden. En el texto analiza la vulnerabilidad humana y la incapacidad para sostenerla de una sociedad basada en el éxito, el crecimiento y la autosuficiencia. Vemos en televisión lo que pasa con los ancianos en las residencias, con los inmigrantes hacinados o hundidos, con las colas de tantos excluidos... nos llegan noticias de amigos y familiares enfermos, en paro, con problemas económicos o personales... ¿quién cuida?

Vulnerability: care as a political horizon
One of the things the pandemic is making clear is that we are vulnerable. Right now we have a lot of people sick from Covid in hospitals, several hundred dying every week and we still have a long way to go.
Yet there is little reflection on care, or at least not enough visibility. If the health system does not give more of itself, who is going to care? how are we going to care? is it possible to adapt to a new paradigm of care?
José Laguna is a theologian, musician and teacher, as well as a friend. I am proud to read his latest contribution to the notebooks of Christianity and Justice, a leading intellectual forum. In the text he analyses human vulnerability and the inability to sustain it of a society based on success, growth and self-sufficiency. We see on television what happens to the elderly in nursing homes, to immigrants who are overcrowded or who have collapsed, to the queues of so many who are excluded... news comes to us of friends and relatives who are sick, unemployed, with economic or personal problems... who is taking care of them?
